One World One Heart...it's true!

This post will stay up top until Feb. 17th, with new posts below it.  Thanks for dropping in to visit!

It's here!
For those who don't know me, I'm Jan Conwell and I make art dolls and folk art.  With my husband, dog, and dog's foster cat, I live in South Texas (San Antonio) and where the weather lets me garden all year around.  I grow herbs for food & medicine, lots of veggies, fruit & grapes for the table & wine.  And flowers...for their beauty and their benefits to the local wildlife.  An organic, balanced garden is a happy garden!

(Click to zoom in, back to zoom out...)
Les fleurs...
The Veggie Garden (fenced to keep out the Dog-Cat show).
I can shovel a lot of...fertilizer.
Native Mustang grapes, for a wine that doesn't take itself too seriously.  :~)
The Dog.
The dog's foster-cat.

As JDConwell, I sell my art on Etsy, and as one of two Hermits, I sell with my leather-artist husband on Artfire and at local art shows.  There are few greater blessings than to be happy, healthy, and doing what I love for a living.  I am crazy-grateful for my life!

Okay, so to the point.  The One World One Heart Giveaway, and my gift to the winner:

Isobel.  She's hand sculpted of paper clay over cloth, wire and wood, and stands a solid 12" tall on a wooden base.  Her dress is linen, cotton, and lace, and her hair is hand-dyed mohair. To win her, leave a greeting in the comments section, making sure I can contact you when the drawings are held.  But please tell me a little about yourself too--the fun of this event is meeting new people and making new friends!

Thank you so much for visiting my artful garden.

  1. Your yard is HUGE!!! and Beautiful!!! wow. You would be amazed at my postage stamp size yard. It is refreshing to see someone who is truly happy with their life and surroundings.
Your doll is Gorgeous and the outfit is so well crafted. I do love that, when the clothes are sewn just as neatly as the doll is crafted.
    Thanks for sharing!

  12. Wow, I am so jealous! Your garden is amazing. I have a tiny little nook in my very small back yard for a couple of tomato plants....oh how I would love to grow grapes. As a child, my neighbors had large grape gardens. The community was mostly Portuguese (as I am) and they made wine every year. They let the kids drink the grape juice non-alcoholic version - so yummy.

yes, please enter me in the give-away. Isobel is stunning!!!

  14. Hi Jan,

Isobel is amazing! I love your garden. I'm so jealous of people who can make plants grow - I tend to kill them. My husband doesn't let me near the plants...lol

Look at the size of your vegie garden. Wow. Jamie Oliver eat your heart out. My husband is the green thumb in my household. I like picking everything once it's ready to eat. I especially love to eat cherry tomatoes straight from the plant.
I see your husband is a leather artist. What product does he usually make?

Isobel is beautiful. I'm a portrait artist, so I'm creative, but I could never make anything like that. You are very talented.

  83. I love your doll. When I was young I was a doll compulsive. My dolls were my special friends my babies and noone was allowed to touch em or I'd wig out. When I turned 12 I wasn't very popular and my "cool" friend told me kids our age didn't play with doll no more. So I flipped out and threw all my dolls ito the attic. My mom was so worried about me as she should have been it was like a minnie nerbous breakdown. I found exceptance so difficult. When I went away to college for Fine Art my mother threw out all my dolls that had put into the attic. Guess that was her wigging out. They were in perfect condition. It was sad for me as I wanted them back when I graduated but alas they were gone forever. I saw one imparticular that sold for 7 grand on ebay./ It was the mod hair Ken with side burns. ANyways I am recollecting dolls again but not the plastic kind. I want hand made and old fashioned creepy broke and cracked dolls now. Hand made beauties too. So your dol would be very special to me if I won. Sanna

  110. my dog takes in foster pets, too. Currently we are entertaining 4 black cats and a mini-pini. I often thing he's made an invisible mark on the front door, "All strays and abandoned pets welcome here." Remember the sign the hobos used to leave during the depression? A comfy kitty which meant, good woman lives here.

  126. Hi there!

Really enjoyed your photos. I have yet to plant a garden, but it's something that I would really like to do one day. I'm dreaming of playing in dirt right now since we haven't seen dirt here in many, many weeks. Although, if the weather reports are correct, we might actually see a lot of the snow and ice melt in the next week (I'm in Northern Indiana).

Anyway - I would be thrilled to win that doll, she is so pretty. I have several of the beaded variety that I have created that could keep her company.

    Thanks for the chance,
