Back to work!

I have no excuse for not blogging, except that I haven't taken photos lately and it always seems boring to post with no pictures.  Having joined the Iris Society in our area, I discovered that June and July are the busy time, with lots of volunteer hours getting ready for an iris sale this month.  So there is that.  Not sure it qualifies as an excuse, but I have enjoyed digging and playing in the iris.  :~)  Otherwise, it's just housework, appointments, square dancing, and general busy-ness.

But I have at least been working on dolls.  I went in there and started counting to see how many in-progress dolls I have going.  Embarrassing, but I have twenty!  I know I should finish the first ones before starting any more, but the most recent ones are mostly Izannah type dolls for the upcoming doll show.  There will be three sizes--22", 18", and 15".  So I have lots of tiny thumbs to sew in the next few weeks.

Maybe I'll take some hand sewing with me when we go to see my son get married in Oregon in August.  It always takes longer than I think it will, so it's best to plan ahead, right?

At any rate, I did get a couple of photos of these that I started in the last few weeks.  I work a few hours every day, adding clay to each of them and setting it aside to dry for the next day's additions.

I'm really hungry for autumn weather, so I have a feeling the fabric choices for these bitties will be fall colors.

Pumpkin Girl

Back when I designed a couple of bodies for my "big girls"--the ones inspired by the Greiner dolls and milliner's model type paper maches, I had made three doll bodies.  Two of them became Isabella and Anne, but the third just sort of sat around...having not turned out sculpt-wise the way I'd wanted her to at the time.  But I went back and revisited her a bit.

She ended up with pumpkin and crackle, with harvest colors and polkadotted stockings and Queen Ann-ish eyes.  I like her and have enjoyed her wide-eyed presence.  Now I guess I'll list her on Ebay or Etsy and see if someone is as hungry for cool autumn weather as I am.

I know, it's too soon, and I should be happy with whatever season is upon me.  But a girl can dream, right?

Tuesday's Treasury

In the nine months or so I've had an Etsy shop, I've only made one other treasury.  But I was really new then, and they didn't have the cool feature that told all those people who'd been included THAT they'd been included.  So you had a lot of extra work to do, letting everyone in on the secret.  Not so these days.  SOOO to that end, I made another one.  Partly because I have been enjoying the recent introduction to a lot of primitive folk artists, and partly because I'm fed up with summer and jonesing for Fall, big time.

The other day, I noticed the tiniest bit of autumn scenting the early morning air, and told the hubs "Fall is on its way!"  He looked at me with that way he has; "Um, dear, the thermostat says it's 80 degrees out at 5:30 in the morning.  What makes you think Fall is going to arrive soon?" 

And I could only fall back on the reply I used to give my kids when I could think of nothing better: "Because I said so!"  Enjoy the folkart, and if you find something you really like, share the love!  (I personally plan to buy some candles...soon.)
