Cleaned the Lair...

Getting ready for the art fair this weekend in Kerrville, Tx.  If you happen to be in the Hill Country this weekend, come see us!  It's the Kerr County Market Days, Sept. 25th, and it's held around the County Courthouse grounds.  Beautiful place, lots of shade and green lawn.  It's a juried, handmade-only market, which suits us right down to the ground.

Because I finally had to stop making dolls long enough to do some final booth-decor sewing, I had to clean up the gawd-awful place I call the Lair (a.k.a. Jan's room).  Phil never has to do this, because he is logical, tidy, and keeps everything where it ought to be.  He's not a neat-freak, just extremely practical.  I can barely spell practical...and so.  This is my room, after it's been cleaned, and almost ready to be sewn in.

I'm so stoked about this art fair!  Even if it's been raining for days now: we're believing this wonderful band of weather will rain itself out and move on.  That's the plan, anyway.

So much to do, so little time...

And yet, here I sit at the computer...well, sort of twisted around sideways to type because the dog has some allergic bite on his butt and is so freaked out by it he won't get off me.  Poor little guy.

We have our first South Texas art fair coming up.  We've set up in Montana, Florida, New Mexico, and North Texas...but this is our first time in this area.  Have to learn a new market.  And too, our business has changed focus from reenactment costuming and hand made leather goods to a more contemporary market and folk art.  So lots of new things to learn.

Sooooo the first fair in the hill country is Kerr County Market Days...not a big show, but a learning ground for us, and a great price for a juried, handmade-only venue.  Free to the public, set along the County Courthouse grounds.  Beautiful old trees everywhere, manicured green lawn, pet friendly...I loved it when we went to check it out--and that was in July!  It was amazingly cool in the shade, so we sat and had a mini-picnic at one of the tables scattered around.

The "so much to do" part is just finishing the booth displays, etc.  I've gotten a long way toward finished, but being the type to go manic over details, I want. it. to. be. perfect.

Anyway, if you happen to be near Kerrville, TX, on Sept. 25th, come look us up.  The Hermits' Garden.    We'll be the ones with the perfect booth.  Or not.  ;~)

Dolls in the works...

Having opened an Etsy store for the dolls, I am now prompted to get myself in high doll-making gear!  Needed to do it anyway, with September's art fair coming up.

So...I got the gourds ready, and now there are several little folks hanging out in the studio, drying their little faces and feets.  They seem to suggest new and interesting additions as they progress, each taking on a personality.  I think I'm in love.

Happy September!

I have been waiting for you, September.  Patient and (mostly indoors) waiting.  You don't bring us much by way of cooler temperatures, but there is that first-thing-in-the-morning scent in the air promising Autumn is not so far away now.  Our harvest this year has been one of productive artistry, business learning, and long range planning, rather than gourds, grains and greens.  Over the coming months we'll put this harvest to the best use we can...

But in the meantime, Welcome, September.  It's so good to see you again.
